A Viable Solution for Yamuna Ji Pollution - A Home Grown Low Cost Aerator

Finally a Solution in Sight.

The biggest criterion to measure the purity of a river is the level of dissolved oxygen in it. It is a worldwide accepted norm. In India, 6 mg of oxygen per litre is an acceptable level for rivers. Shri Yamuna ji in Delhi has 0 mg oxygen. The river on its flow up to Braj Vrindavan does a lot of self cleansing (It is scientifically proven that Yamunaji has the most self cleaning properties amongst all the rivers of this planet). Yet, the waters do not achieve a standard to bathe in, leave alone sipping.

With sheer grace and causeless mercy of Their Lordship, Shree RadhaKrishna, Maan Mandir has been able to come up with a solution which can pump the much needed oxygen into Shri Yamunaji( pumping oxygen into sewage waters is the most important part of treatment in all the sewage treatment plants on earth, though the most energy consuming one). 80 Kg of Oxygen is dissolved in 24 hrs if the river is flowing at the rate of 1.38 m/s. There are two Teflon piston, which doesn’t require lubricants. It pump the air into the base of River through air diffuser.

A novel way of using the flow energy of river water to efficiently run piston pumps that push air into the waters has been developed by ShriLal Jha from Sardar Patel University, Anand, Gujrat. This prototype was launched in the River Yamuna at Vrindavan Ghats during MahaKumbh there. A lot of news media coverage also took place. The Model had successful results in its objective.

It is an invention with an aim to create a self sustainable river water purifier which needs no financial support for its day to day operations. The uniqueness of this practical invention lies in the fact that neither is its daily operations a financial burden nor is its machine expensive. One water flow powered aerator (machine) shall cost between 1 to 1.5 lac rupees only.

The initial estimated number of machines to be able to cleanse Yamuna ji is put at 400(approx). The model has received over whelming approvals from:

  1. NEERI scientists
  2. IIT professors on Water Treatment
  3. DDA officials dealing with Sewage Treatment Plants
  4.  GD D Aggarwal, the leading environment professor who lead the movement which saved River Ganga from Dams in Gangotri Area.
  5. Teri Officials
  6. Ex- engineers who dealt with River flows and Sewage Treatments.

The Delhi Government officials have in principal agreed to install these aerators in one of their major polluting drains for tests.

We have had several fruitful inter active sessions with learned people who are experts on the several aspects of Yamunaji. These scientists, water flow experts, environmentalists, chemical engineers, physist, sewage treatment experts, fisheries experts, ecologist have all lend us their credible and critical observations on the matter.

Interestingly, once all above comments are put together, a completely different picture emerges than the one we are lead to believe by the government or the people who oppose the government.

The solutions to cleaning the river has various dimensions but if one were to make an attempt with honesty and determination as one would do to save one’s own mother, IT IS NOT A DIFFICULT TASK.

PS. We have not yet written about the exiting possibility of generating and pumping ozone (you read it right) directly into the river water. It has been successfully tested and is in its final stages of practical implementations.
